Brackner Lane, Bilsthorpe
Rural Self-Build replacement dwelling
This replacement dwelling was designed as a self-build for clients that wanted a contemporary home in a rural setting.
Set on the footprint of a 1950s workers bungalow, with expansive countryside views on all sides, the plot gave us the opportunity to design a dormer bungalow with a difference.
A building that could be seen from all sides, it needed more than a front and back elevation to appease the planners. And so with a brief to design a 4 bed home on a modest footprint of 85sq.m we devised a building form that is both bold and striking in appearance and which when combined with a materials palette of graphite grey bricks, gun-metal standing seam roof and black window frames, casts a dramatic but simple form on the landscape.
